Every 98 Seconds – Sexual Assault Awareness Walk

April 8, 2017 @ 10:00 am - 11:00 am

TYPE: Walk & Talk | PACE: Conversational | TERRAIN: Gravel Trail | DISTANCE: Approx. 1 mi |

EVERY 98 SECONDS – a walk to increase sexual assault awareness
WHY: April is sexual assault awareness month. According to the Rape, Abuse, and Incest National Network (RAINN), every 98 seconds an American is sexually assaulted, and every 5 minutes the victim is a child. The goal of sexual assault awareness month is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and to educate communities about how to prevent it.

WHAT: A mile long walk in solidarity against sexual assault and to learn about the local agencies that assist and support victims. Staff from The Blue Bench and MESA will be there to provide information. The gravel trail is relatively flat and can accommodate strollers and wagons. And as an added bonus, the blue herons are back and nesting in many of the trees, so bring your binoculars.  Dogs on leashes are also welcome.

WHERE: Metzger Farm Open Space. The Metzger Farm open space is jointly owned by Broomfield and Westminster. The main trailhead and parking lot are located off Lowell Blvd directly across from W. 121st Street Place (one block north of 120th and Lowell).

WHEN: Meet at 10:00am on Saturday April 8 in the Metzger Farm parking lot. [NOTE: In case of electrical storm or hazardous road conditions the walk will be automatically postponed.]

WHO: This walk is being co-sponsored by Broomfield Open Space Foundation. For more information contact Annie Lessem at 720-263-2201 or
