TYPE: W&T | PACE: Conversational (2-3 mph) |TERRAIN: Lots of sidewalk, small hills, dirt/pebble trail | DIFFICULTY: Moderate| DISTANCE: Approx. 5 miles
Walk Description: In partnership with the High Line Canal Conservancy, we will walk the entire High Line Canal, one segment at a time, covering most of the 71-mile trail. Check out our overview page here for more information on all of our walking events.
Segment 6 of 14, Miles 20-25 | A Long Amble through Littleton, Part 2: On this segment, we’ll get to see some major crossing challenges for the High Line and some of the plans that are projected for better trail access. We’ll enjoy wander through some small farms and gardens with horses, Horseshoe Park and cross Broadway three times,.
Walking Movement Leader: Chris Englert, a Walk2Connect Member-Owner and Walking Movement Leader has been leading walks down the High Line for several seasons. You can also find her walking all of Denver’s trails and neighborhoods on a regular basis. Find more info about her at www.eatwalklearn.com
Meeting Location, Parking, and Planning: Julia DeKoevend Parking Lot,6315 S University Blvd, Centennial, CO. Park at Julia DeKoevend Parking lot off University near Goodson Rec Center. Bus stop #16874, Rte 24. This parking area is the end of the walk for this segment. We will meet at the end of the segment, park, and then carpool to the beginning of the segment. Please be parked and ready to walk at 8:45 am. We will leave no later than 9:05 to the starting destination. We will walk the segment together. At the end of the walk, we will carpool back to the beginning of the segment to return people to their cars. If you are not comfortable carpooling, please make other arrangements to meet us at the start of the walk and for you to depart the walk. Alternatively, you can take a Lyft. If you use this link and you’re a new Lyft user, you get a credit toward your first ride. If you have questions about how parking/carpooling/transit will work, please contact Chris.
Final Details: You will receive final details about this segment on the day before we walk. Refer to this final details email for concluding comments about weather, parking, and conditions. If you do not receive this email by 5 pm the day before the walk, call Chris immediately (303-507-7280).
Bring: At least 2 bottles of water, dinner, appropriate clothing for the weather, sunscreen, hat, and snacks.
-All walkers who complete at least one segment of the Connecting the Canal Event will receive a water bottle from High Line Conservancy. For the walkers who complete all 14 segments of the Connecting the Canal event series according to the official schedule will receive a 71 miles token from the High Line Canal Conservancy.
-We will take breaks along the way as we find shade or welcoming spots.
-Be sure you are packing what you need to be comfortable, quenched, and fed.
-Wear comfortable shoes and clothing, and you may also want to include appropriate outerwear, hats, and gloves to accommodate for the weather.
Cancellation Policy: We only cancel in extreme weather conditions on our path, such as ice, hail, or lightening.
