Connecting the Canal – Segment 2, The Foothills (W&T)

December 2 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

Free

TYPE: W&T | PACE: Conversational (2-3 mph) |TERRAIN: Lots of sidewalk, small hills, dirt/pebble trail | DIFFICULTY: Moderate| DISTANCE: Approx. 6.6 miles

Walk Description: In partnership with the High Line Canal Conservancy, we will walk the entire High Line Canal, one segment at a time, covering most of the 71-mile trail. Check out our overview page here for more information on all of our walking events.

Segment 2 of 14, Miles ~2-6.6 | The Foothills: On this segment, our 71-mile journey will truly start. Walking along the beautiful Chatfield Reservoir area and along the foothills, we will start our journey northward. We may see longhorn cattle, horses, foxes, and birds of prey along the way. We’ll pass an historic homestead and wave hello to some wholly mammoth bones. This is the first walk of several through the Rolling Hills Zone.

Walking Movement Leader: Leslie Brown, after walking the High Line Canal last summer, became a Walking Movement Leader recently. All leaders are well versed in the Canal and are ready to lead the way.

We walk in all weather, but we don’t go in ice. You are welcome to text or Leslie (303 859 7097) to confirm the walk is going. We will send out a notice to all who have RSVP’d if the walk is cancelled, but no news is good news

Meeting Location, Parking, and Planning: Park in the 11490 Roxborough Park Rd, Littleton.  This parking area is the end of the walk for this segment. We will carpool to the beginning of the walk and then do the walk to the end of the segment. If you do not want to carpool, you will need to make other arrangements. Alternatively, you can take a Lyft. If you use this link and you’re a new Lyft user, you get a credit toward your first ride. If you have questions about how parking/carpooling/transit will work, please contact Carol.

Final Details: You will receive final details about this segment on the day before we walk. Refer to this final details email for concluding comments about weather, parking, and conditions. If you do not receive this email by 5 pm the day before the walk, call Leslie immediately.

Welcome Waivers: Please fill out the online “Welcome Waiver” or download, print, sign, and turn in a hard copy if this will be your first Walk2Connect walking experience in the past year.

Bring: At least 2 bottles of water, lunch, appropriate clothing for the weather, sunscreen, hat, and snacks. We may also see mountain goats, so bring your binoculars and camera.

Final Details Email: You will receive final details about this segment on the day before we walk. Refer to this final details email for concluding comments about weather, parking, and conditions. If you do not receive this email by 5 pm on the Friday before the walk, call Chris immediately. 303 507 7280.
